Lotus Cars USA has voluntarily recalled more than 5,000 cars\u00a0over an oil-cooler line detachment\u00a0that could spray oil on tires, causing an accident.<\/p>\r\n

Last week, on Oct. 26, Lotus notified\u00a0the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of its\u00a0safety recall of\u00a0the\u00a0Lotus Elise for the years 2005 to 2006 and the Lotus Exige for the years 2005 to 2006. There are\u00a05,037 cars potentially affected.<\/p>\r\n

The vehicles were manufactured\u00a0from June\u00a01, 2004, through Nov. 30, 2006.<\/p>\r\n

According to Lotus, “The oil-cooler line may become detached from its fitting,” and\u00a0“a detached oil line could spray oil on a tire, increasing the risk of a crash,\u00a0or it could spray oil throughout the the engine compartment, increasing the risk of a fire.”<\/p>\r\n

Lotus plans to notify the owners of the affected cars, and dealers will repair the vehicles as necessary free of charge.<\/p>\r\n
